The first thing to do: is to understand what your business is all about. What problem your business solves? Here are five major questions you as a business owner or sales team need to answer.

  1. Who are my clients?
  2. Why will they want to do business with us?
  3. What problem are we solving for them?
  4. How do we get them to refer us to their friends, family, and social networks?
  5. What are our values?

What can you do better than your competitors? Do you respond faster to their inquiries? Or do you offer free delivery? You need to outline the benefit that comes with your offer and state it boldly so your customers can see it. Focus on the benefits of what makes your product or services better than others.

Who Are My Clients?

First of all, your clients are humans and not aliens (lolz). So treat them as one. A clear understanding of your customers will help save you from a lot of hiccups in your sales journey. One key lesson I learned from Facebook and Google is how they thrive to understand their users better.

They want to know your age, location, interest, workplace, places you want to hang out, how much you are willing to spend, even as far as politics and religion. We can sum up all of these to what I call building relationships.

People don’t buy products: they buy benefits. Why do I need to buy a pair of jeans? Is it because it is a piece of clothing? No, it is because I want to look attractive in it. The attraction is the value I get from the purchase.

Why Would They Want To Do Business With Us?

What can you do better than your competitors? Do you respond faster to their inquiries? Or do you offer free delivery? Here is a case study: I saw a post on twitter that got my attention. Someone made a post 

“Can anyone tell me if @chickfilA is a good product? A bun, chicken and a prickle seem so simple. Why are sales increasing so much?”

 

Customers who have visited the restaurant were giving good feedback. They never forget their great customer services.  And, they are willing to share their experiences online.


Great packaging can attract customers but how you treat them will determine their loyality. Your focus should be to attract them and build a solid relationship with them.

What Problem Are We Solving For Them?

Recognizing the problem you are helping your customers solve; will drive sales for your business.

  • Listen and understand the customer’s pain point. (What are their complains and what do they keep talking about?).
  • Show sincere concern and provide an immediate solution.
  • Do a routine follow up to ensure the customer is satisfied.

What does your business stand for? You are the one to determine, what principles that governs your business deals. What this implies is “why did you establish this business?
